Mitch, it sounds like you have a stuck 'CTRL' or 'ALT' key. Try pushing both (on both sides) with a little force to see if you can feel it come loose. Sometimes though, you can't feel it come loose, but it does in fact loosen up. You might have to pop the keys themselves off if you don't have any luck.
