Mitch, something like this should work:
Column A = last name, Column B = first name, Column C = year of
graduation
A B C
1 Mueller Mitch 2010
2 Stanzel Matt 2011
=SUBSTITUTE(TRIM(UPPER(CONCATENATE(LEFT(A2,1)),A1,RIGHT(A3,2)))," ","")
The "Substitute" portion will remove spaces from the username and
replace with no space.
