Usually clients works fine with 10000-30000 emails per folder.

But more than that.... they just slow down/crawl, no matter how much power you have on serverside.

Out suggestion to the client(s) is to make subfolders by year or something like that.

Yes, that's a lot. Even if your server is able to handle that number of messages in a single mailbox, most *clients* won't.
