I miss it too.
On my modified debian 3.8 package :
ii cyrus-imapd 3.8.4-1.3 amd64 Cyrus mail system - IMAP support
mbpath has a new option -7 :
-7 mailbox arguments are in modified UTF7 rather than UTF8
But the default is still UTF7 and UTF8 will give an error.
On Debian's 3.10 you need to use -7 option to UTF7 mailbox names, UTF8 is
the default.
Ah, thanks! Option -7 isn't mentioned in the manpage, but shows in mbpath -h
