I’m running cyrus-imapd version 3.10.3 on Debian 13. It occurs that in case

cyr_info proc shows information on non-existant processes.
That's interesting. They're supposed to be cleaned up, but there's probably
some edge case where they're not...

Which processes are leaving proc files behind, and how were those processes
started/stopped?
Hm, digging into it I found segfaulting imapd's … and the left files in /run/cyrus/proc are exactly those from segfaultes processes (11 of them today).

Example:

ls -l /run/cyrus/proc/2675151
-rw------- 1 cyrus mail 80 Sep 24 12:03 /run/cyrus/proc/2675151

cat /run/cyrus/proc/2675151 –
imap    server.hrz.tu-chemnitz.de [2001:638:911:…]      user            Enable

in /var/log/syslog:
2026-09-24T13:06:08.419483+02:00 jess kernel: imapd[2705451]: segfault at a8 ip
00007fef7732c0b8 sp 00007fffd2ca55e0 error 4 in
libcyrus.so.0.0.0[9e0b8,7fef77305000+31000] likely on CPU 3 (core 3, socket 0)

Last log for cyrus-imapd:
2026-09-24T12:03:19.936929+02:00 jess cyrus/imap[2675151]: client id
sessionid=<cyrus-1790241396-2675151-1-4239591173920152366> userid=<user>:
"x-originating-ip" "134.109.X.Y"

The connected servers are always our webmail servers running SOGo via imapproxyd. Log for imapproxyd is probably:

2026-09-24T13:06:08.425308+02:00 helmut in.imapproxyd[426598]: Raw_Proxy():
IMAP server unexpectedly closed the connection on sd 165

But how to find the cause of the segfault … any hints welcome.

Is it safe to delete all files in proc_path during start?
It's safe if the shutdown fully completed and the corresponding processes
aren't running anymore. I would not assume this to be the case; I would check.

I’ll do this with a script.

Thanks,
Frank
