I don't want to start, or be part of, another altercation in this mailing
list, but, I personally do not appreciate participants posting messages with
file attachments. I'm not steamed about this particular incident and hope my
comments don't get misconstrued. It is up to Joe to condone or disapprove of
file attachments.
Although, since a file attachment situation occured previously in another
Topica list I was subscribed to, it seems that the list moderator apparently
has no way to block file attachments from being sent to all the
participants. The person that sent files in the other Topica list
transmitted huge file attachments that locked up my email software for over
10 minutes while it downloaded. Then, it had to download several more times
because the first few times the files got corrupted in some way. It was a
major pain and totally unnecessary for every single list member to have to
deal with. [I hadn't used my 'eRemove' program in many months since I had no
longer been victimized by some malcontent's continual mailboming of my
accout, so, I didn't think to employ it to delete the offending huge
corrupted file message from my mailserver.]
I would have much rather had the file attachments on this list (and future
ones) sent directly to Joe so he can add them to his website(s) if he wishes
and can then report to everyone on the list where they can be found.
That being said, I had never used WinAmp before and when I did click on
several of the .wav files that were just transmitted to all of us, it popped
up and played the sound fle. I have an inkling that this was part of the way
the files were sent, not due to WinAmp already residing on my own computer.
Does this seem logical to anyone? If that were the case, the actual sound
files themselves should be considerably smaller in size than the way they
were sent to us.
