Lee,
Here are a couple of things that might help track down and solve
Kernel32 errors:
Kernel32 errors are most often caused by video drivers that need
updating. Go to the web site of your video card manufacturer and get
the latest drivers for your card. Try turning down your hardware
acceleration, color depth, and/or screen resolution. I would also
recommend that you update your scripting engine at:
http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/vbscript/scripting.asp
There has been a rash of these errors caused by something called comet
cursor, installed by Real Player. Go to the following link for
information about Comet Cursor:
Comet Cursor
http://www.cometsystems.com/help/real_privacy.shtml
Download Comet Cursor cleaner:
http://files.cometsystems.com/cometcursor/Comet_Uninstaller.exe
Make sure you are not prompted to install Comet Cursor again
http://download.cometsystems.com/no_nag/nonag.asp
As a matter of interest, Real Player can be configured to stop
attempts to record your preferences. Go to options/preferences and
choose *not* to record a users "habits".
In addition, some free programs install a file called advert.dll which
can cause errors on closing. Search for a file called advert.dll and
rename it advert.old.
And also update your java VM at http://www.microsoft.com/java
And your directx at www.microsoft.com/directx (search for and run
dxdiag to check what version you currently have).
Have a look at these links for information about Kernel32 errors.
Error Message: IEXPLORE Caused an Invalid Page Fault...
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q155/1/16.asp
Err Msg: Invalid Page Fault in Module Apitrap.dll (yes it specifically
mentions kernel32.dll as well)
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q224/8/13.asp
If you run Cleansweep, go to Symantec's web site, do a search for
apitrap.dll and download their version. A conflict between IE5 and
Symantec's version of apitrap has been known to trigger this error
message.
And if you're running CrashGuard, turn it off. And turn off any of
those programs such as Ads Off or Pop Off. They cause kernel32
problems as well.
Finally, have a look at these sites found via the MVP "Big List" at
www.mvps.org:
http://www.freespeech.org/Khephra/a/k32harp.htm
http://www.freespeech.org/Khephra/a/k32fix.htm
Thanks to the MS MVP'S for this information.
