I have still not found an answer as to why upgrading to Internet Explorer
v5.5 and its associated Outlook Express will not interact properly with my
Panasonic KX-P1124 dot-matrix printer. Or, how to rectify this annoyance.

As if that isn't bad enough, I've just discovered another irritating problem
after the alleged "upgrade".

While reading email in the allegedly "upgraded" OE (I'm only using it
because I still have problems with other mail programs operating properly on
this computer) and clicking on a link within the email, IE automaticaly
starts up to go to the webpage of the clicked-upon link. I have Opera v4.02
set as my default browser yet OE forces me to utilize their inbred-cousin,
IE.

I have searched the help files and selectable options in both IE and OE but
neither present an option (unless I just haven't found it yet) to select an
alternate default browser except for the button which resets all defaults to
the way MS would like you to have them. After the upgrade and when I first
noticed this situation, I checked my Opera settings and sure enough, the
alleged IE "upgrade" deselected the Opera defaults. After re-selecting Opera
as the default for handling browser tasks, IE still starts when clicking on
a link in an OE email message.

I should wise up and properly repair, upgrade hardware, and/or reformat the
harddrive of this somewhat corrupted old computer instead of dealing with
all these Microsoft annoyances and aggravations. How MS can keep getting
away with all of this megalomaniacal crap with their lousy products is
simply amazing.

On that note, is anyone on this mailing list running Linux? If so, how do
you like it? It is my intent to, at the least, reformat this harddrive and
install Linux to see how it works. I get more fed up with MS crap after each
of these annoying events and should have switched to a viable alternative
long ago. I've never operated either a Linux or Mac system but I'm closer to
switching my horse in mid-stream because this MS horse ain't gettin' the job
done.
