Have you tried
opening that layer, using one of the tools and hitting the delete
key. I am unfamiliar
with that program since I use Paint Shop Pro for all my graphic needs but it
might work similarly.
PSP also supports
PNG but I never use that format. Gee, I guess I'm not help to you after all! *S*
Give the layer delete a try.
