Hi Gil,
Am unclear as to your computer abilities but this is a fairly simple
proceedure. Boot from your Win boot disk. Hopefully you will have your
CD drivers theereon, if not, you will have to install them into memory
manually. Put the Win install CD into the drive. Once you have booted,
change to your CD's drive letter. Then type: setup followed by the /nd
switch. This will tell windows to reinstall and not pay attention to any
windows file versions. All windows files will be overwritten but you
will retain the Registry and all installed program information. Some
Microsoft programs may need to be reinstalled but all your personal info
and data is kept.
As with any changes on your unit, it is always smart to backup personal
stuff just in case.....and, if the problems you are having with your OS
stems from info in the registry, this will not help. However, if you
have a few corrupted system files, perhaps this will get you back on
track. No matter what you choose to do, all updates that you have
installed on your machine will have to be downloaded and re-installed.
Installing windows is a fairly straight forward process. The only other
suggestion I would make is, if you do end up reinstsalling from scratch
- do so on a clean hard drive: format the drive in prep and, fdisk your
master boot record. If you need any of this explained a bit further, ask
away.
Good Luck!
