I think I found the cause of the cyclic redundancy check error, but have
found no solution except to use the same machine and drive that the floppy
was created on to read the floppy.
This story from zdnet.
"You are most likely reading the disks on a different floppy disk drive
than the one on which they were written. Differences in head alignments can
affect whether disks can be read on different drives. "
