You probably will have to
uninstall IE5.5 before downgrading the version. Hopefully when you did install
5.5 you allowed a backup of the original to be saved during the new install. For
starters you can go to Start\Setting\Control Panel/Add/Remove Programs. Scroll
to Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 and Internet Tools and click on that. A
window will pop up giving you three options. Choose the Repair option and see if
that helps. As always, reboot when done.

Jay,
Do you have a suggestion for me? I upgraded
to IE 5.5, but I'm not certain that it's the cause of my multiple
problems. I tried to load my previous version, but the computer
wouldn't let me! My worst problem was that I couldn't access IE at
all. Now, if I do all sorts of juggling, I can usually open it.
("juggling" means I close or disable all the little icons at bottom right
of the screen) I've had approx.15 hours in-home technical help, but
none of the technicians found the problem. I don't live in US, but am
retired to a lovely "developing" country that is far from high
tech.
