I think it depends on what you will use the camera for. If you will use it
for shots that will be put on your computer then most any of them will do,
as long as the resolution is at least 75-100 dpi (the resolution of most
monitors). If you want it for an all purpose camera then you need to buy as
much camera as you can afford. Watch the mega pixel amount for the camera.
It should be no less than about 1.2 to 1.3 mega pixels for decent images to
be printed out on your printer. But the printer is sort of a bottle neck
too because most don't print over about 300 dpi, and a high quality photo
can be 800 or more dpi.
Mine is an Olympus D340R, and I've worked with a couple of Polaroids and
some off brands. The higher mega pixel cameras always put out better shots,
but I've seen little if any difference in quality of camera with same size
mega pixel ratings. I'm sure that's not true with all, but seems to be with
most.
The main difference I've found with them is in the way they download to your
computer. The ones that use software, depends on the quality of the
software as to how easy/difficult it is. Some save images to 3.5" floppy
disks which is real easy to transfer to your box or save as is, and others
use "smart cards" which you download to your machine and erase before using
again. Some, you slip the camera's smart card into a thing that looks like a
floppy disk, andno software needed (nice) to download it.
Good luck on your search. There are a lot of choices out there.
