Maybe those of you who dislike those popup ads as much as I do will want to check out www.adshield.org
 
I don't understand the technical part of it, but it works with the browser.  When an ad you don't want appears, you position the cursor over the ad and right click.  A window appears where you can choose to block the ad.  If, for some weird reason, you want the ad back you can do that, too.
 
I've been using it about 10 days with no problems.
