I really want to make a smart answer : Yes.
most cameras can be adjusted for output size and/or quality.
A 2Mp camera will yield a 6MB .tif file, so an uncompressed file would take
almost all of an
8MB card. Commonly images are stored on the card compressed in.jpg format
which also has quality controls manifested by smaller file sizes with less
quality,
thus fitting more images on the card., or less compression to yield better
quality
when uncompressed for processing. Parenthetically, don't edit and resave jpg
files:
convert to tif or bmp and edit those files. believe me.
With some cameras you can also adjust the
size of the image, using 640x480 for web pics, and reserving the larger
sizes like
1800x1200 for images to be printed larger, as 5x7 or 8x10. For snapshots
the 2Mp cameras will make a good 5x7 and a decent 8x10.
It bolis down to: the larger the images, in pixels, the more space it takes
up;
the stronger the compression, the less space it takes up. You will have to
balance
these considerations to meet your needs.
When 64MB cards were $150, there was a problem here. Now they can be found
for $40
so the issue has cooled down.
