Greetings and Happy Independence Day! This is a brief note to say that no, I've not disappeared from the INFOSEC space, but been rather busy with work, finishing my next book, and other personal obligations.
This past week saw the latest round of cyber-attack fear, uncertainty, and doubt (FUD) manifesting itself as the "Defacement Challenge." For a glimpse of how several well-known security professionals (including myself) responded to the "challenge" feel free to visit INFOWARRIOR.ORG or ATTRITION.ORG for the next day or two for "infotainment" on the matter. Additional details can be found in Rob Lemos' News.Com article at http://news.com.com/2100-1002_3-1023295.html?tag=fd_top. If you missed my latest op-ed, "Overcoming 'Security By Good Intentions" you can find it at http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/55/31094. Of course, I plan to have a few more op-eds out in the near future as time permits. Finally, while I rarely if ever plug products or services - commercial or otherwise - I want to make a plea to INFOWARRIOR-L subscribers to visit Rob Rosenberger's VMYTHS.COM website. For years, Rob's site has been a fantastic resource in the fight against FUD and cyber-attack hysteria on the Net. Unfortunately, with Rob being activated to go "play in the Sandbox" for an undisclosed period of time, VMYTHS is in danger of going off-line permanently. As a security professional/pundit/author emphasizing reality and rationality over spin and sensationalism, I implore you to visit his site and see if you or someone you know can help them stay alive. (VMYTHS is an all-volunteer, nonprofit entity, so you can imagine how difficult it is to sustain such efforts. Any donations to his site won't be wasted!) Thanks for listening, and cheers, Richard Forno Infowarrior.org -- You are a subscribed member of the infowarrior list. Visit www.infowarrior.org/lists for list information or to unsubscribe.
