OpenSIMS:A Proposed Framework for Collaborative Risk Metrics
http://www.opensims.org/rm_proposal.pdf

OpenSIMS provides a way for tying together the open source tools used for
security management into a common infrastructure. It leads toward having
different networks use risk metrics to collaborate on attacker profiling and
remediation.

Security infrastructure management is largely a systems integration problem.
The acronym "SIMS" begins with the letters "SI" for good reason. The point
of releasing OpenSIMS and AgentSDK as an open source project is to address
that problem directly, and build a common set of solutions. So far,
installations of this code base have been tested on Gentoo, RedHat, Fedora,
and Debian. Mac OS X and FreeBSD are in test now with several other
platforms currently under development.

FAQ:

What is the OpenSIMS Project?
OpenSIMS is an open source project sponsored by Symbiot, Inc. which provides
a way for tying together the open source tools used for security management
into a common infrastructure. It leads toward having different networks use
risk metrics to collaborate on attacker profiling and remediation.

Why was the OpenSIMS project created in the first place?
Current SIMS (Security infrastructure Management Systems) solutions are
primarily available only as proprietary software packages. OpenSIMS was
created to offer an open source alternative to these proprietary solutions,
and to create an open collaborative environment in which new SIMS
technologies could emerge.

Who created the OpenSIMS project?
OpenSIMS was created by the founders of Symbiot, Inc. - Mike Erwin, Jamie
Pugh, Paco Nathan, and William Hurley.

Who manages the OpenSIMS project?
The OpenSIMS project is managed by Paco Nathan (Symbiot, Inc.), William
Hurley (Symbiot, Inc.), Dan Camper (Borrowed Time, Inc.), and Paul Schmitter
(RiskMetrics Group, Inc.).

What does the future hold for OpenSIMS?
Our goal is to transfer OpenSIMS to the Apache Software Foundation under the
incubator program, and eventually have OpenSIMS become a TLP (Top Level
Project) available at Apache.org.
