Hello Fedora Infrastructure Team, My name is Jason Hall and I am excited to begin contributing to Fedora Infrastructure.
My Matrix handle is: @jkhall81:fedora.im About me: I am a full-stack developer and systems engineer with experience in automation, backend tooling, Linux servers, ETL pipelines, CI/CD, and internal DevOps systems. I work daily with Python, Perl, Go, PHP, JavaScript/TypeScript, SQL, REST APIs, Docker, and Ansible. I also actively contribute to open-source projects, including Ansible (since October) and Kubernetes (starting this month), and I’m excited to expand my contributions into Fedora Infrastructure. I'm particularly interested in contributing to Fedora's backend services, automation, and Flask-based applications. Fedora Infra’s use of Ansible, Python, and messaging systems aligns very closely with my professional background. Skills I bring: • Python (Flask, scripting, automation) • Perl (log processing, backend workflows) • Go (tools, ETL pipelines) • Linux administration (servers, logs, Asterisk/Vicidial infrastructure) • Ansible automation • CI/CD (GitHub Actions, Jenkins-style pipelines) • SQL / reporting workflows • API integrations What I'd like to learn: • Fedora Infrastructure architecture, messaging, and deployment flow • How applications such as Bodhi, Pagure, and fedora-messaging are developed and maintained • How to contribute patches, triage issues, and assist with automation tasks Areas I’d like to help: • Fixing issues in Infra web applications (Flask/Python) • Improving automation or scripts • Working on beginner-friendly infra tasks • Participating in the fi-apprentice process when appropriate Any guidance on where to begin, which issues are suitable for newcomers, or how best to get involved would be greatly appreciated. I’m eager to start contributing right away. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to working with the team.
