Can I make a bid for an item to be put on the wish list for the next
version of iMS?
We see an enormous amount of DOS type connections, spam or virus, and
one trick we have found useful to combat it is to tarpit those
connections. We have a tool that works in both the mail.cfm and helo.cfm
templates to asses incoming mail and tarpit or not.It is very effective
but ties up a ColdFusion thread as the delay is imposed in the template
itself (using a "pause" custom tag), ie the template stops for several
seconds before giving the response back to iMS. This has been fine up
until recently but now we are seeing the server stop as CF is running
out of threads.
If we could feed a response like "Accept, tarpit" back to IMS that made
it pause for a pre-configured amount then it would free CF up and keep
the wheels turning.
