[iMS] problem with receiving email sent via CFMail

I'm having a problem reading messages (using Outlook Express) sent to iMS
via Cold Fusion's CFMAIL tag.  I've tried several different combinations,
I'll list what's working and what's not, and see if the answer is obvious to
someone (probably Howie!)

Sending a message from Outlook Express, via NTMail (on a different machine)
to an iMS:  works fine
Sending a message from CFMail, via NTMail (on a different machine) to an
iMS:
        Reads from FusionMail:  ok
        From Outlook Express:  Timeout after 60 seconds, fails.

Sending a message from CFMail, via iMS to an iMS account on the same
machine:
        Reads from FusionMail:  ok
        From Outlook Express:  Timeout after 60 seconds, fails.

Sending a message from CFMail, via a Unix box to an iMS account on the same
machine:
        Reads from FusionMail:  ok
        From Outlook Express:  ok

The logs give no indication of a problem.
