What version SMTP Server are you running? This may be related to an old
problem that has been resolved.

Howie

Subject: [iMS] CF 404 errors in SMTP log
Hi,
I'm wondering if any of you have seen this one... Especially Howie, I guess
:) Occasionally, CF seems to freak out on my iMS machine and starts
returning 404 errors to the SMTP server. Interestingly, the POP server
isn't affected.
I can't figure out if this is a CF problem or iMS... The fact that POP
doesn't generate any errors during this time suggests iMS. Also, if I
restart the SMTP service, the problem fixes itself.
Here are the only "strange" lines from the logs that I can find. It almost
suggests iMS starts looking for templates with strange names, which wouldn't
exists.
These lines usually appear before the 404 error in the SMTP log. The exact
errors seem to depend on who is sending mail and how. In all cases they
follow a warning line that says "Application server response:".

(Note the garbage chars in there. wdg2.worlddesign.com is the sending MTA in
a couple of these.)
I can't really see any pattern in when this happens, but once it starts it
keeps throwing errors for every connection until SMTP is restarted. Does
seem to happen when there are 20 or more connections to the SMTP service,
but most of the time it handles > 20 connections with no problem. I have the
max threads set to 40. I am baffled and bothered.
If there's anything I can do to help track this down, please let me know.
On a related note... does anyone know a little monitoring utility that
actually tries to send mail to verify that a mail server is up? I run
What'sUp Gold from Ipswitch, and I don't think it does that. I might just
have to write one real quick in CF....
TIA,
-Max
