We just had some major problems on our production server yesterday, and I
believe that I traced them back to a problem with CFX_iMSMail. Here are
some details:

1. As you may recall from a previous post, we were using v2.3 of the tag.
We were asked to switch this to v2.2.
2. I downloaded v2.2 and copied it into the iMS directory, overwriting the
previous tag.
3. I restarted CFAS.

We have one program right now that uses this tag to send email only
occasionally. I guess the first time it was run with the new tag was
yesterday afternoon, and CFAS hung. I searched everywhere for into on why
CFAS was not responding, but I couldn't find anything in any of the CF logs.
I did find the following entry in the W2K Event Log, however:

Application popup: cfserver.exe - Unable To Locate DLL : The dynamic link
library borlndmm.dll could not be found in the specified path

I didn't know what this was, but it sounded like it could relate to a CFX.

I had to reboot the server to get CFAS responding again.

I went to a meeting and when I returned I found out that they had to reboot
the server again a couple of times. This time I did find an entry in the CF
log:

"Error","TID=1280","04/11/01","13:52:34","207.35.188.14","Mozilla/4.0
(compatible; MSIE 5.0; Windows NT; DigExt)","Error loading CFX custom tag
library<P><P> The library associated with the custom tag CFX_IMSMAIL
(C:\iMSPOST_SE\CFX_iMSMail.dll) was not found.<P>Please check the
LibraryPath entry for this tag in the custom tag database to verify that the
library file exists and is accessible by the Cold Fusion service.<P><p>The
error occurred while processing an element with a general identifier of
(CFX_IMSMAIL), occupying document position (114:2) to
(123:58).</p><P><P>Date/Time: 04/11/01 13:52:34<BR>Browser: Mozilla/4.0
(compatible; MSIE 5.0; Windows NT; DigExt)

Now, the file was there in the directory, but obviously something was messed
up. Every time we restarted the server, it would hang again. I realized
that iMS must be trying to send something in the queue each time, and
postfail was trying to use the CFX tag to send an email.

To stabilize the server I did the following:
1. Removed the CFX tag from the CF Administrator
2. Changed the templates calling the CFX back to using CFMAIL.
3. Stopped the POST Server.

I am not comfortable turning anything back on until I find out what happened
and receive some guidance on what to do from here. Please let me know what
you think.

One other thing that I noticed when I was looking at the event log:
Whenever I stop the POST Service, I see the following error in the event
log:

The inFusion POST Server service terminated with the following error:
Overlapped I/O operation is in progress.

Should that message just be ignored? It doesn't sound very good.

Our server is running CF Professional 4.5.1 SP2 on W2K.

Thanks for your help,
Bob
