Hi Matthew,
Following on on this thread a bit later, Howie had said:
>If you send mail to 1500 or fewer domains then you're fine...I think that
>it's best to set that number 10 or 20% higher than the
>amount of domains that you anticipate sending mail to.
We have done that, we send a lot of Subscription Newsletter stuff for our
clients and the domain count is enormous so out server is currently set at
100,000 records! I very much doubt that the server is using all of them :-)
We did some experiments early on to see what is best and as the mem usage
is so low we made sure that we cached everything we could. Currently the
server is running with 147MB committed memory bytes, not a lot at all.
We also found that the server can do silly things if you do not put a
number in the field in the Configurator, ie., let it be unlimited. We were
never able to narrow down what was happening and Howie was never able to
reproduce it but we got occasional times when the server memory usage went
thru the roof, then resources started running out and we got a semi-dead
server quite rapidly. It took just 10 mins or so to go from a perfectly
stable machine to errors everywhere. I should point out that was with a
previous version of the server, we haven't tried to see if the same thing
occurs with the current server. This only occurs with no limit set, we have
never had the same occur with a limit set.

Kym
