I have never seen this. The variable gets set after the decoding process has
completed. If there is an error in decoding then the
tag throws an exception, otherwise the ODSMIME_TEXT parameter is set.
One thing, as I look again at the text above - you may be missing a # in your code -
it should be #odsmime_text#
