I wasn't referring to SE in particular.  We use iMS (Pro) as an all-around mail server

I meant split up into sub directories on the same box, but that was more of an idea 
for how iMS handles the queue internally.  There's no way for us to affect how iMS 
handles that.  The only real option there would be to use >1 iMS server to split up 
the outgoing queue.
