What's the error you are seeing?  Could you send me the domain name off-list so that I can have a look?

Thanks,

Howie

Subject: [iMS] MX Lookup error

Hi Howie,

Our IMS is getting an MX lookup error for a particular domain from 2 of our DNS servers. When I do an MX lookup on the particular domain using NSLOOKUP, an MX record comes up. Our office mail server (which is not IMS) has no problem looking up the MX record and sending mail to the domain in question.  Do you have any idea as to what could cause this? I have noticed that the MX record has a different format than our MX record. Could the difference have something to do with the problem?

I have included a sample of what I see for the recipients domain when I do the lookup through NSLOOKUP (the domain names have been changed to protect the innocent) and what I see when I look up bigdough.com.

domain.com   MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = mail.domain.net
domain.com   MX preference = 20, mail exchanger = mailhost.otherdomain.com
mailhost.otherdomain.com    internet address = 123.456.5.10
mailhost.otherdomain.com    internet address = 123.456.5.11
mailhost.otherdomain.com    internet address = 123.456.5.12
mailhost.otherdomain.com    internet address = 123.456.5.13

bigdough.com    MX preference = 20, mail exchanger = mail2.bigdough.com
bigdough.com    MX preference = 10, mail exchanger = mail1.bigdough.com
mail2.bigdough.com      internet address = 192.168.100.20
mail1.bigdough.com      internet address = 192.168.1.9
