I agree with the earlier post regarding putting IMS on a dedicated machine. 
Also, does you r outgoing mail track un subscribes, open rate, link 
tracking, bounces etc? If so, all this CF activity will also slow down your 
IMS box.

You may want to use a different box to handle all of the CF activity 
generated from outgoing campaigns. After all, if you send 200k emails, each 
one with a trackable gif in it, thats 200k cf requests / db requests coming 
back in as your mail is still going out (in some cases). Which could slow 
down both processes.
