We figured out what it was.  The browser service was hung on the mail server so the cfx_iMSMail tag on the web server couldn't see the out folder on the mail server.  Once that was fixed everything started working great.
Thanks

Sorry for the late reply - I've been researching this for a while now.  Anyway, the only thing that I can come up with is that your system was low on resources.  That version of the tag has been released for quite a while and I have no reports of errors like this.  Have you seen this occur again?  Have you tried rebooting?

Thanks,

Howie

The out folder was removed from active scanning and I still get the same error in the post log
Exception in Loader (3): Cannot open file D:\iMS\Out\iMS-134304AF14F21C4F85DF.mail.

This is the error that shows up on the page.

Diagnostics:
CFX_iMSMail v2.9.6 - Exception occured while processing tag

Exception class: EInOutError
Exception message: Too many open files

The error occurred while processing an element with a general identifier of (CFX_IMSMAIL), occupying document position (197:4) to (212:63) in the template file C:\INETPUB\WWWROOT\CONNECTBUILDER\EMAILTOOLBOX\MAIL\WRITE.CFM.

The code in write.cfm hasn't changed and as far as I know security hasn't changed on the server.  I do have quite a few files in the out folder right now and when I try to delete them it says there has been a sharing violation the source or destination file may be in use.

If you see that in the log then the file was either locked at the time or was corrupted.  Do you have AV software on the server?  If so, you should disable scanning on the iMS Out folder.
