Marc,

Yeah, sort of... I mean, I played with the POST configuration on my local
workstation, and pointed "outgoing servers" to my client's domain. As long
as the "from" address is from the same domain, the POST server is pushing
all my e-mails to their destinations thru the domain's mail server. If I
turn the POST service off, it doesn't work. I was just seeing if the CFX tag
would talk directly to the SMTP server. As I've read more of the
documentation, I'm getting a clearer picture.

I'm just not sure that my hosting company will want to install the POST
server, so I had to ask my question.

Thanks for the responses.

Hi Jason,

That you can do.

As I understood the issue, Carey wanted to know if e-mail can be sent
through other mail servers using the CFX_IMSMAIL tag.

Just wanted to clarify first point.

Can I not instal/call the tag on a machine that does not have the iMS server
installed, and using the spooldir attribute, place mail onto the iMS server
machine?

Hi Carey,

You cannot use the CFX_imsMail tag on any server other than iMS. There are
other third party tags available to use with external mail servers. Take a
look at the CF Developer's section on Macromedia's site.

You had mentioned that you weren't sure that the POST server would "play
well" with another mail server. This is not a concern. The POST server does
not bind to an IP address, so it will not interfere with another mail server
at all. In fact, one of the nicest things about the server is that it
doesn't require an external mail server at all.
