MX From Address means that iMS will use the domain portion of the address when sending
the email if the normal MX lookup fails. So, if someone sends mail to [EMAIL
PROTECTED] and there is no MX for domain.com then iMS will attempt to send the mail to
a server called domain.com. If the address was [EMAIL PROTECTED] then iMS would use
mail.domain.com as the server address.

So, in your first statement about the way iMS works and the way other servers works -
it's basically the same.

In the second statement, that's not the way iMS works - it will not strip out the
"mailserver" part from the string - it uses the complete text after the "@" sign in
the email address.

Subject: [iMS] MX lookups for IMS

Having a little trouble with some records being looked up.

It appears that if there is no MX record for a domain then the email
will not get sent out. I was under the assumption that if there is no
MX record then the mail would be sent to the domain's IP address. At
least I think this is the case with most mail servers.

In the config for the POST service has "MX From Address" checked, but I
thought this just used the domain portion of the email address to do the
MX lookup. IF [EMAIL PROTECTED] was used then the lookup
would just look for domain.com.

Is there some other setting that I need to change?
