The mail source files and control files can only contain hex digits.  In iMS 2.5 these can be lower or upper case but older versions of iMS require upper case.  mail source files have an extension of .mbx and control files have an extension of .mail.

A mail source file name is 32 sharacters.  For example:

FFC5AC8EF6E07042A5FAE8FDE73E5E33.mbx

A control file is 65 characters and contains the name of the mail source file as the second part of the name (separated by an underscore character).  For example, the following is a control file for the mail source file above:

FE4142069702D543A006B4D5CB7FCD20_FFC5AC8EF6E07042A5FAE8FDE73E5E33.mail

The control file can contain one or more recipients in the same domain and it is recommended that you write the control files first and then the mail source file.

Subject: [iMS] .mail and .mbx file naming

Hi Howie,

I think this has come up before, but I can't get to the mail archive site.

What is the proper format for .mail and .mbx filenames? I am trying to have a java app I'm working on send mail through IMS and can't get the naming right.

Thanks,
Marc
