I think that you'll find that the problem is network related.  Also, I think you will 
find that reverting to 2.4 will not alleviate this.  If you get these errors when 
connecting to more than this server then I would say you need to look at your network 
(cabling, NIC, etc.) or, if it's only this server, then the problem would appear to be 
on the other end.
