Hi,

I installed release 0.6.10.1 and initng-files 0.1.4 (manually
compiled).

The problem occurs, too, if I use the latest deb packages (I am using
Debian 4.0, Etch).

Problem: During boot sequence, the nvidia splash screen is shown.

Then either: 1) X gets aborted or 2) KDM is displayed. If KDM is
displayed, I can enter an character in the user name and password
field, but if I do that, then this character gets automatically
repeated in the appropriate field, endlessly. I need to apply logins
several times one after another, which of course fail. After a certain
amount of login attemps, the character I type into the user name and
password field are not endlessly repeated anymore, and then I can enter
the correct user name and the password, and then I can log in.

After the nvidia splash screen is shown, and 1) does not happen (as I
remember), the display first shows a black screen, and then some
"flickering", i.e. in the upper area of X. This flickering consists of
small red and black areas. After that KDM is displayed, with behaviour
2).

This behaviour, including the flickering, does not occur when I use
(the old) init.

I guess this behavior is related to the driver of and libraries for my
nvidia card, which requires legacy drivers and libraries. Thus, my
video card is not supported anymore by the current driver and library
installation files by nvidia.

I have a RIVA TNT2 Model 64/Model 64 Pro (rev 15). I am using kernel
2.6.18-5-486

I installed the driver and the libraries according to

http://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers

I used installation method 1.

I think you need the Xorg.0.log files of a boot sequence done by init
and initng for comparing them. I will send you these files later if you
say that you need them.

Best regards.

Jens
