Running infrastructure software is a fair bit of work, and especially
with user discussions and moderation and spam, there's annoyances and
politics and security issues to deal with. So, offhand and just as
general philosophy I've appreciated that third parties set up and run
discussion forums on their own independently of us. I think we save
work on ourselves and stimulate community goodwill by fostering third
party efforts for forums.

Going forward, if relying on third party forum sites isn't cutting it
any more, I'd certainly not be opposed to having a forums.inkscape.org
or similar, if we have folks willing to put in the time to administer.
I don't think we should pursue domain name takeover; the site's been
operating in good faith otherwise and has been a service to the
community, so that doesn't sit well with me. We're all largely
volunteers and have real lives, so time availability can come and go; if
the site's gone defunct well I sympathize with the operator.

Now, that said, I feel we do have some ownership on whether a site can
claim to be the "official Inkscape forum", and we can control that via a
link from our site (and perhaps maybe even a forums.inkscape.org
redirect?) I'm totally ok with us notifying inkscapeforum.com that we
are considering no longer designating them as official, due to spam
complaints, with the carrot of linking to their site if they get things
straitened up in a timely fashion.

If that doesn't pan out and inkscapeforum.com is indeed looking to be a
lost cause, before we consider any further steps I'd like to hear from
Brynn on her plans and wishes with regards to her forum site.
