Sorry - been very busy (worked 12h yesterday, 10 today !!)

So, I can't answer your question, and it's late :(  But I want to ask on 
the Dev list or the irc channel, but I thought I'd give you the 
opportunity first (since you know the question better).  But I'm happy 
to do it if you don't want to make the effort.

Just let me know.  I want this answered too.

One other option is maybe to avoid listing all but the most common 
formats (which we know for certain will be available everywhere), since 
likely people won't be interested in them except in rare cases.
