Martin, If you'd like to contact the authors to get permission, I say go for it. I know we have them license things as CC BY SA for the contest, but I'm not sure more casual computer users really understand it. I think that perhaps on file uploads to inkscape.org, maybe we have a checkbox that asks if we can use them for promotional purposes? Again, just to make it that much easier and clearer to less savvy users, as I really doubt many people would be against it.
Also, we need to touch base on the status of the screenshots stuff... it's becoming more pressing as release is nearing and I have all of the past galleries to redo on top of creating the new one.
