Things happen, and this is a bug. Don't worry, Duarte. The shield is
mainly cosmetic, the real website functionality isn't broken. As long as
the downloads work, people usually don't complain ;-)
(we almost only ever get bug reports from non-project-members when the
downloads are broken...)

That's totally possible, and could be a good explanation.

I didn't test the latest website functionality for a long time, because
I've been busy moving (we're just now starting to get into some kind of
half-way normal routine again), and I've also never deleted any unread
messages on the live site, so that could be a reason why it worked for
me, but not for you ;-) Thanks for your help with pinpointing the problem!
