I get the same error when I try to create a new translation, not matter which language (either Server error, or 502). Adding a new news item probably won't work, as there doesn't seem to be a way to set its language and to link it to the original article from the interface - so all you could do would be to create a new English article. So, no workarounds, currently. I'll copy your message into a bug report for inkscape-web. Martin has reported some (probably failed) attack on the server, but I'm not sure it's related. Maybe it's just some issue with an update having gone wrong, or it's due to the mail server inactivation (your internal message won't get through, currently, that's right). I've made a bug report here, so it can be investigated: https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inkscape-web/issues/209 If you have a gitlab account, you can subscribe to the issue, and I'll also let everyone here know when it's resolved.
