At my job, we call it "The Dummy Effect". When you've spent the entire
morning staring at broken code, you go find a fellow hacker and get
him/er to sit there like a dummy while you simply explain the problem
out loud. 85-90% of the time, the answer pops into your head without the
"dummy" so much as saying one word.
