When running in SHARED_JVM mode, I assume that means there would be

That is correct, unless you specify different values for the PORT parameter.

The 10 simultaneous processes all have the same port number which seems strange to me.

I have a situation where I am getting up to 10 processes perpetually
running even though I am running in SHARED_JVM => 1.

Eventually, it seems, Inline::Java is unable to work properly, and it
claims that the classes in my JAR files do not exist.

What OS are you running under?

Debian Linux

Are you running under mod_perl/CGI/... ?

Yes, mod_perl.

Could this be a result of the fact that I have multiple subs that each set the classpath before beginning?

Any ideas?

Luke
