Subject: Re: install Inline-Java-0.52 on Windows XP
hello,
Just wanted to recheck on status re this thread. At present we have a
user-base to which we recommend: -
- download latest 5.8.x ActivePerl dist
- [>] ppm install http://theoryx5.uwinnipeg.ca/ppms/Inline-Java.ppd
- [>] set PERL_INLINE_JAVA_J2SDK=C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_09
this works well (Inline::Java v0.51) & is simple. But seeing the 0.52
release, I thot we may be able to simplify further to
[>] ppm install Inline::Java
...but at least on my activestate ppm 0.52 doesnt show up in available
package upgrades. Do activestate repositories not reflect latest CPAN dist?
Also, wanted to check on WinXP issue - i.e. didnt understand comment "Please
Don't test integration on Windows XP". 0.51 works fine on XP.

ActiveState don't build a ppm package for Inline-Java. The uwinnipeg
repository (from where you obtained 0.51) does provide a ppm for
Inline-Java, but doesn't update automatically automatically - a request to
the maintainer of that excellent repository (Randy Kobes) is usually what's
needed to get an updated ppm built. he's a very obliging fellow, but often
rather busy, so I always feel that we shouldn't bother him unless it's
fairly important.
I could probably build a ppm of version 0.52 for you (built against
jdk1.5.0_09) and stick it on the web where you can access it, if you like.
Let me know if you want that.
(I don't understand the reference to XP either.)
Cheers,
Rob
