I am having issues getting private password protected groups working.
I have set my readers.conf file to the following :-
```
auth private {
auth: "ckpasswd -s"
}
access private {
users: "aaronngray"
newsgroups: "private.*"
}
```
but Thunderbird is complaining "login to server
nntp.climateemergence.global with username aaronngray failed."
The password is definitely correct in both cases, but I am unable to
authenticate.
I tried using htdbm -cbB /usr/local/news/db/passwords aaronngray ********
and :-
auth private {
auth: "ckpasswd -d /usr/local/news/db/passwords"
}
as well.
Hoping someone can point me in the right directions with this.
Aaron

Hi Bo,Thanks for having spotted that.? I'll commit it when I come back from
holidays.I see in the DBI changelog that RaiseError has been applying to
connect() since version 0.91 released in 1997.? We can safely rely on it.Happy
olympic summer to all!--?Julien

It doesn't seem to be explicitly stated in the DBI documentation,
but the RaiseError attribute passed to the connect method applies
to that method call itself as well as to future method calls
on the returned database handle.? So, with RaiseError => 1,
there's no need to check the return value.? Patch attached.

Hi Aaron,Could you try to run ckpasswd by hand to see whether it reports any
failure.? It is explained in the Examples section in:? ?
https://www.eyrie.org/~eagle/software/inn/docs/ckpasswd.htmlIs generating the
dbm password file with the Perl script from the description of the -d flag
working better?? Maybe the format is different than the one "htdbm -cbB"
generates.You may also try with -f (see the related option in the manual page)
as long as -d doesn't work as expected.--?Julien
