Alternatively, you could run Mozilla (http://www.mozilla.org) and solve
a number of issues at once.

Mozilla has excellent pop-up blocking, so good in fact that I didn't
realize it was still a problem. It allows you to white list sites (like
your bank) so that you can permit pop-ups when you need them, but it
blocks all those unrequested ones.

It also has tabbed browsing which is a killer features. Instead of
having to open links in new windows, or constantly go back to the
original page, you can load links in another tab in the same window and
they load in the background. This just rocks at news sites or when
searching for something as you can load related links in the new tab.

The attached Mail client is very good and does a great job filtering
spam.

There's lots of other yumminess in Mozilla (it's open source for
example) but the other major feature that might appeal to Windows users
is that it doesn't run those IE related viruses.
