Mr Ruddock says, "They (the French) have a different system which they
operate which gives them different powers. It may suit France's
circumstances. It wouldn't be in our view helpful to pursue that

To don't have to read to far between the lines to realize what he
actually means is 'Australia has an election looming, and discussion
about a "Chechen explosive expert ... heading to Australia" and
suspected terrorists being "sent to Sydney to help prepare for a major
terrorist attack" aren't going to help Mr Ruddock's party stay in power,
so could we talk about something else?'
