Can I urge everyone in Sydney concerned about how many people will be in the
UCA next year to take advantage of the opportunity Palm Sunday offers to
make a public witness to our commitment to peace and justice. There are lots
of people of goodwill in the community who despair of the churches when they
see them as silent on important issues. Palm Sunday is an opportunity to
testify to our belief that peace and justice are possible, and to build
bridges with all people of goodwill.
Please, please, please, come to the Palm Sunday prayers in Belmore Park at
1.00 on Palm Sunday, 4 April, sponsored by the NSW Ecumenical Council, and
then join the march to Hyde Park and the rally there, organised by the
Sydney Peace and Justice Coalition.
Sr Susan Connelly will speak briefly during the prayers, and Rev. Dr. Ray
Williamson, General Secretary of the NSW Ecumenical Council, will be a
speaker at the main rally in Hyde Park. He needs Christians to be there as
testimony to his statements about what the churches believe and do.
Please urge your congregations and friends to come.
This is a day of witness - a day to show we are relevant, and committed, and
that our beliefs affect our view of life.
