I reckon this guy has no idea about what power means (limiting it to unopposed power of a military dictator)
Perhaps he should come to one of our sexual misconduct awareness workshops

I take it that you are referring to Gerard Henderson, the writer of the article.
I agree with you; he says that Alan Jones and Laurie Oakes only exert "influence", members of government only "authority", and dictators "unbridled" power. It's a mis-understanding of the term.
I don't know what dictionary he's looked up the term.
My on-line dictionary says this about power:
1. the ability, skill, or capacity to do something.
2. control or influence over other people and their actions.
3. the authority to act or do something according to a law or rule.
4. the political control of a country, exercised by its government or leader.
5. somebody who has political or financial power.
6. a country that has military or economic resources and is considered to have political influence over other countries.
7. physical force or strength.
8. persuasiveness: the abilities to influence a person's judgement or emotions.
9. a faculty, skill or ability.
To say that journalists don't wield power is ridiculous. To say that radio jocks don't wield power is ridiculous. To say that elected leaders of government don't wield power is ridiculous. To say that the US doesn't wield power over Australia is ridiculous.
Cheers from Phillip Island,
