Hi Everyone,
Preamble...
I have kept silent
during the fracas, but just wanted to clarify about some of
the Bandy material and public access.
As an educator of
the UCA with a particular role in passing on and disseminating
information, like Rob Bos and Ted Endacott, I am aware that
when I say something about particular material, if I am saying
it within a UCA forum, I am likely to get quoted - in fact, I
hope I am. (As a matter of courtesy, if I mention a particular
person, I send them a CC of the email that I am sending to the
group - that way they are in the position to correct any
inadvertant flaws.)
As John Emmett has
pointed out, there is an excellent article on the UE website -
it has saved me no end of time - I had been precis-ing the
four books as I read - now I feel free to just read and
(bonus) have the added value of an Aussie-educator's spin on
them. (Incidentally, my rereading of the original posting has
Ted giving permission to Rob to post the article on the
e-group).
Having a discussion
on some of this material is why I joined this list. I posted
material on "Moving off the Map" before and have eargerly
awaited a never-coming-reply... am I in the wrong
group?
Substance...
I have some questions
about Bandy... (someone out there may know)
- Mission Educators have
been asked to attend the conferences and read the materials
- what is the longer term agenda? Is that still to be
set?
- Will there be opportunity
to hear from and contribute to some contextual re-reading of
the material? Is this group a good place to do some of
that?
- Do those of us in NSW-ACT
(also WA & the Nth Synods) need some special
strategies to inform people about tis material - given that
Bandy's visits are only to Qld, Vic/Tas & SA? (My
special interest question is How would you NSW-ACT folk like
to address some of this material - do Board of Education and
Board of Mission need to organise some events or
seminars?)
My comments about the
Bandy material...
- Many Mission Educators
would be familiar with much of this thinking - but I think
we make too many assumptions about what the people in the
pews have been exposed to - lots of people are still reading
their first Callahan book - including clergy!
- Too often material (such
as Callahan or Bandy) is presented or received as formula,
rather than people actually being educated to think.
Education is not just about knowing how to do -
sometimes it is about learning how to be... one of the needs
here is to teach people to work on thinking and becoming
grown-up missioners.
- It is pretty easy reading. Some
congregations will be confronted by some of the concepts -
but most will at least understand the language used - for
me, that in itself is a good start!
Blessings to
all...
-
Amelia
