Actually I don't even remember SRE classes in my OC days. Yet we must have had them. As to the theory - I'm not sure it had anything to do with the OC education per se - I just think that people of above average intelligence are more likely to find the glaring anomalies in simplistic and/or authoritarian theology, not to mention politics, and seek a more equitable way of living.

Research question:
Just how many OC-ers are out there?
Reunion Roll-call...

- Clare (were you at Artarmon?)

Nope - Chatswood, the year behind you. Strange we didn't remember each other when we got together a couple of years later.

Further question:
How do you think your Upper Primary education has influenced your spiritual
formation?

In my case, OC ed at Chatswood Primary (1975-1976) was in my pre-christian
days. At the time, my teacher was a pre-christian Communist (I'm not sure
how many times we studied China and we had a Re-education strategy for
behaviour management). Interestingly, this teacher is now a very active
member of one of the congregations I visited recently. Maybe our social
justice conversations in the 70s have EVOLVED into a later spiritual
articulation?

I don't think my upper primary education influenced my spiritual development at all, except in an indirect kind of way. That is, going to OC class helped me to believe a bit more in myself (though sadly not enough to avoid being abused a few years later), but I was getting so much spiritual input from sunday school and GFS that I don't recall SRE classes as being anything other than times when I knew more bible stories, and more answers to the teacher's questions, than anyone else in the class. And I have a feeling that's more of a negative than a positive in developing spiritually.
