Greetings to our new arrivals. I want to introduce you all to our
development cycle at Insoshi. We aim for regular Friday releases of
new (possibly unstable) features. We'll evaluate those features for a
few days, and then (now that our developer site is up) we'll push out
the bleeding edge release every Tuesday morning. If you have
contributions to make, it's best to have them in by Monday morning so
we can roll them into the release. This week's release focuses on
some admin features, a fix for duplicate activity feed items, and
fixes for various minor issues that showed up after the launch of our
developer site. (In case you missed it, we made it into the popular
technology blog TechCrunch:
http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/04/29/social-networking-goes-open-source-with-insoshi/).
You can always get the freshest release from GitHub
(http://github.com/insoshi/insoshi).

The developer site itself is holding up well, though there are several
changes planned for the next three weeks. The biggest is that we want
to focus the site just on people actively involved in Insoshi, either
as contributors or as interested followers. The site as it currently
sits understandably has many members who joined to try out the site
and 'kick the tires', but going forward we want to be more selective.
We'll start by increasing privacy controls on Tuesday, May 6, so that
(for example) only registered users can see profiles, and only
contacts can comment on walls. Then, on Tuesday, May 20, we plan to
deactivate profiles that don't meet certain minimum activity criteria.
We'll spell out those criteria in advance on Tuesday, May 13; we
don't want anyone to get shut out in the cold!

If you have questions about getting started contributing to Insoshi,
see our Contributors Guide at
http://sites.google.com/a/insoshi.com/insoshi-guides/contributors-guide
. This week we got a nice contribution from Tim Reinke that was just
what we were looking for (in this case, adding forum topic and post
deletions for admins). There are a number of steps to go from
downloader to contributor, and we thank Tim for navigating them with
us. Eventually we plan to have teams focused on special interests
(perhaps including an Insoshi Core team); watch this space for
details. We'll also be sharing more about the goals of the Insoshi
project as they come into focus.

Cheers,

Michael
