For someone jumping on to the end of this thread does anyone have a link explaining how to modify the attachment_fu s3 file?
On a related question: How does one know if the FreeImage/ImageScience are doing the lifting in a Windows environment where Rmagick/ ImageMagick are loaded for other projects?
